Large-Scale Car Park Line Marking Refresh at Hylands Park, Chelmsford

D Line Markings Ltd was appointed by Chelmsford City Council to carry out a comprehensive line marking refurbishment across the extensive visitor car parks at Hylands Park, one of Essex's most popular parks and event venues.

Over time, the existing road markings had become worn and faded, making parking less organised and reducing the visibility of important traffic guidance markings. The council required a complete refresh to restore the car parks to a high standard, ensuring visitors could park safely, efficiently and with confidence throughout the busy park.

Completed over four days, the project involved refreshing more than 600 parking bays and approximately 1,200 metres of yellow line markings, together with hatched safety areas and directional arrows across a variety of surface types.

Scope of Works

Our experienced team completed the refresh of:

  • Over 600 parking bays
  • Approximately 1,200 metres of yellow line markings
  • Hatched safety areas
  • Directional arrows

Every marking was carefully reinstated to improve traffic flow, maximise parking capacity and provide a safer environment for the thousands of visitors using Hylands Park each year.

Working Across Multiple Surface Types

One of the unique aspects of this project was the variety of surface types throughout the car parks.

Our operatives installed thermoplastic markings across:

  • Traditional tarmac
  • Concrete road surfaces
  • Concrete grass grid parking areas

Each surface required careful preparation and the correct installation techniques to ensure excellent adhesion and long-term durability.

By adapting our methods to suit each surface, D Line Markings Ltd delivered a consistent, high-quality finish across the entire site.

High-Quality Thermoplastic Line Marking

All markings were installed using hot applied thermoplastic screed, providing a durable and highly visible finish capable of withstanding the heavy traffic experienced at Hylands Park throughout the year.

Thermoplastic road markings offer numerous benefits, including:

  • Outstanding durability
  • Excellent day and night visibility
  • Fast curing times
  • High resistance to wear
  • Long service life

This makes thermoplastic the ideal solution for busy public car parks and local authority facilities.

Improving Visitor Safety and Traffic Flow

Hylands Park hosts a wide range of public events throughout the year, attracting thousands of visitors.

Refreshing the parking layout has provided several important benefits:

  • Clearly defined parking bays
  • Improved vehicle circulation
  • Enhanced pedestrian safety
  • Better organisation during busy events
  • Increased visibility of traffic guidance markings
  • Professional appearance throughout the site

The completed works help ensure visitors can access and use the parking facilities safely while maintaining an organised traffic flow during periods of high demand.

Materials Used

This project was completed using:

  • Hot applied thermoplastic screed

The combination of premium materials and experienced installation provides a durable finish designed to withstand continuous vehicle use.

Project Outcome

The project was successfully completed over a four-day programme, transforming the appearance of one of Essex's largest public car parks.

By refreshing over 600 parking bays, 1,200 metres of yellow lines, hatched areas and directional arrows, D Line Markings Ltd has helped Chelmsford City Council provide a safer, more organised and welcoming environment for visitors to Hylands Park.

The refreshed markings have restored clarity throughout the site, ensuring motorists can park responsibly while improving overall traffic management for everyday visitors and major public events alike.
